What this connects

Machine controllers, PLCs and IoT gateways to production records.

Supported workflows

  • Recording machine output counts against a work order
  • Capturing downtime with a reason code
  • Monitoring process parameters during a run
  • Feeding production dashboards from actual machine data

Data exchanged

  • Output counts
  • Machine state and downtime events
  • Process readings such as temperature or pressure
  • Timestamps and machine identifiers

Setup requirements

  • Machines exposing data via OPC UA, Modbus, MQTT or a vendor API
  • An IoT gateway or local agent on the shop-floor network
  • Mapping between machine signals and work orders

Permissions required

  • Read access to machine data interfaces
  • Shop-floor network access for the gateway

Security and privacy

  • Shop-floor networks should stay segmented from general office networks.
  • Connections are read-only by default — we do not write to machine controllers without an explicit, separately agreed requirement.

Known limitations

Stated plainly, because finding these out during implementation is worse than knowing them now.

  • Older machines frequently expose nothing at all and need retrofitted sensors.
  • Each machine make and model is assessed individually; there is no universal connector.
