Manufacturing and Industrial
Footwear Manufacturing
Size-run production against a last, where material grading and cutting yield decide whether the article was worth making.

Also covers: Shoe Manufacturing · Footwear Production · Sole and Upper Manufacturing
About this industry
A footwear order is not a quantity, it is a size run. The same article in eleven sizes needs eleven sets of cut components, each nesting differently on material that varies by hide or roll. Cost per pair therefore moves with the size mix actually produced, not the one quoted, and a run that finishes short in the common sizes leaves the rest unsellable.
Common operational problems
- Cost is quoted per article while material consumption varies by size
- Cutting yield differs by operator, pattern and material lot and is not measured
- Upper, sole, insole and accessory components are tracked separately from the article
- Job work sent out for stitching or lasting is not reconciled against issue
- A short size in the run makes the remaining pairs unsellable
- Rejection at final inspection is recorded as a quantity, not as a cause
Example workflows
Article defined with its component list and size-wise consumption
Material issued against the cutting plan for the size run
Cutting yield recorded per lot and compared with the norm
Stitching and lasting job work issued and received with reconciliation
Final inspection recording the defect that caused each rejection
Dispatch in size-run cartons with challan and e-Invoice
