Worked scenario
Twelve boxes accepted, nine usable
Fragile goods signed for unopened transfer a risk that neither party inspected, and the argument that follows has no evidence on either side.

Tiles and sanitary ware break. Boxes are signed for sealed and opened when work starts, which may be days later.
The signature covers nothing useful
It confirms boxes arrived, not that contents were intact. Both sides know this and neither has a better record, so claims are settled on relationship rather than fact.
Windows close quickly
Manufacturer claims for transit damage generally have short deadlines. Damage discovered a week later is usually outside them, and the distributor absorbs a cost that was recoverable on day one.
What changes
- Condition recorded at dispatch and at delivery
- Breakage claims raised within the supplier's window
- Damage attributed to transit, handling or storage
- Recurring damage by route or product identified
