Worked scenario

Kit ordered in June, delivered in September, played in nothing

Team kit has a hard deadline set by a fixture list, and a supplier lead time that is frequently discovered rather than planned for.

3 min read

A club needs kit for the start of the season. The order requires collecting sizes from members, placing it, and having it printed.

The collection stage is the slow one

Waiting for every member to confirm a size takes weeks and is outside the retailer's control. Planning that stage backwards from the fixture date, with a cut-off, is the only thing that makes the rest achievable.

Printing is not part of delivery

Personalisation is a second lead time and is regularly forgotten when a date is promised. The garments arriving on time is not the same as the kit being ready.

What changes

  • Supplier lead times recorded and used when promising dates
  • Printing and personalisation counted as a separate stage
  • Size collection deadlines set backwards from the fixture date
  • Orders at risk visible before the deadline passes
