An injection tool has a service interval expressed in shots. Tools move between machines, so a machine counter does not answer the question.
Maintained by symptom
Without a per-tool count, service happens when parts start showing flash or short fills — which means it happens after quality has already been affected and scrap has already been produced.
History belongs to the tool
A tool's service record, retained over years, is what allows a processor to judge whether a recurring defect is a maintenance interval problem or a design one. Kept per machine, that history is meaningless.
