Licensed retail carries record-keeping obligations that go beyond commercial need. The count happens whether or not the business finds it useful.
Make the obligation produce something
The same count that satisfies the requirement can reveal line-level variance, slow movers and pricing gaps — but only if it is entered once and held where it can be analysed rather than copied into a register.
Variance per line, not per day
A daily total that does not reconcile gives nowhere to start. Per line, a discrepancy is usually explicable within minutes while the day is still remembered.
