Worked scenario

Service continuing three months past the last payment

A subscription business that does not enforce its own disconnection policy is providing a service it has stopped charging for.

3 min read

Subscribers pay monthly. Some do not, and service continues because disconnecting is a decision someone has to make about a specific household.

Deferral compounds

Each month of forbearance adds to an arrear the subscriber becomes less able to clear, which makes eventual recovery less likely rather than more.

Consistency protects the operator

Where enforcement varies by who is asked, subscribers learn that quickly. A policy applied evenly is easier to defend and, in practice, resented less.

What changes

  • Payment status visible per subscriber against the billing cycle
  • Overdue lists produced rather than compiled
  • Disconnection decisions applied consistently
  • Reconnection and arrears handled as one process
